Why Become an Egg Donor?

Egg donation offers a remarkable opportunity to support others in achieving their dreams of parenthood. For recipients, it provides a chance to overcome infertility challenges and embrace the profound experience of pregnancy and childbirth. For donors, it’s a chance to make a lasting impact while gaining personal fulfillment and financial compensation. Egg donation provides a significant opportunity for a successful live birth, allowing the recipient to carry and deliver a child. Additionally, it enables the possibility of the baby being genetically related to the recipient’s partner.

  • Life-Changing Impact: Your donation could help families struggling with infertility, same-sex couples, and others achieve their dreams of parenthood.

  • Empowering Hope: By donating your eggs, you give individuals and couples the hope of starting or growing their families.

Additional Requirements for the Egg Donation Process

At Nicosia Fertility, we take additional steps to ensure a safe, ethical, and effective egg donation process:

1

Cycle Limitation

Donors can participate in no more than three donation cycles per year to protect their health and well-being.

2

OHSS Risk Reduction

We prioritize stimulation protocols that minimize the risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). On average, 10 eggs are collected per cycle.

3

Electronic Records

All donation records are securely stored in a centralized electronic system established by the Authorized Authority.

4

Informed Consent

Donors must sign the Donor Information and Donation Consent Form, ensuring they fully understand and agree to the process.

Step 1: Application and Screening

The process begins with an application and thorough screening to determine donor eligibility:

  • Medical History and Physical Exam: A detailed review of your medical and family history, as well as a physical examination.

  • Laboratory Tests: Blood tests to check for infectious diseases (HIV, Hepatitis B/C, etc.) and genetic conditions.

  • Ultrasound Evaluation: To assess ovarian health and ensure suitability for donation.

  • Psychological Assessment: To confirm emotional readiness and stability.

Step 2: Cycle Synchronization

Once selected, donors undergo cycle synchronization with the recipient. This involves:

  • Ovarian Stimulation: To encourage the development of multiple eggs, the egg donor takes hormone injections administered in the lower abdomen over a period of 10-12 days leading up to the egg retrieval procedure. Throughout this process, the donor's response to the stimulation is carefully monitored through regular ultrasounds and blood tests every 2-5 days. This close observation allows the doctor to adjust medication dosages as needed and determine the ideal timing for egg retrieval, ensuring the highest quality eggs are collected.

Step 3: Egg Retrieval

The egg retrieval process is safe and minimally invasive:

  • Performed under sedation, the procedure involves using an ultrasound-guided needle to collect eggs from the ovarian follicles.

  • The process typically lasts 20–30 minutes, with minimal recovery time required.
